About the School

Established in 2020, The Dance Co. offers dance classes in Tap, Ballet, Modern/Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary for children aged 4-18 years in Brentwood, Essex.

We encourage all students to develop at their own pace, and have mixed abilities in all of our classes so you're sure to find your place here at The Dance Co!

We are committed to making dance enjoyable and exciting for all, while striving to develop strong technique in our young dancers.

Dance is something that should be enjoyed, and we want our students to dance for the love of it and not just for the exam mark.

Making dance exciting and enjoyable for all!

Our ethos is that each child should enjoy dancing no matter how much experience or dance education they've had.

We support our dancers through performance skills and technical training, offering both technique classes and troupe classes on Saturday mornings.

School Syllabus

  • TAP

Think Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, meets STOMP! The Musical.

Tap is a very diverse style with the use of intricate rhythms to create interesting sounds and beats by metal plates on the bottom of your shoes.

  • BALLET

One of the oldest classical styles there is.

It has developed and adopted more variation over the years, but the fundamental technique has stayed the same. Development from younger ages to a senior level includes working on pointe and pas de deux.

  • MODERN

Home of jazz, lyrical, contemporary & acro!

This incredibly varied style covers so many different aspects of musicality. Develop technical jazz and release contemporary, becoming a well rounded dancer.

  • CONDITIONING

Body conditioning goes hand in hand with Dance, keeping you strong and flexible.

Yoga, circuits, strength training and stretching are so complementary in all aspects and styles of dancing.

About the staff

Principal Dance Teacher - Lydia Coomb

Lydia has danced since the age of 3, starting her journey off at Pirouette School of Dance in Blackheath & Ingatestone , training in Tap, Ballet, Modern and Lyrical. She started assisting in classes there at the age of 14, and became a full staff member at age 17 when she started her teacher training on the UTD examining board. In 2013 at the age of 18, Lydia went off to train at a vocational dance college in South East London to develop her technique in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz.

The Dance Co. was opened in 2018, and Lydia is now continuing her own training on the ISTD examining board to become certified in Tap, Ballet & Modern, and will soon be able to enter students into examinations in those styles.

Class Helpers - Lucy Wingrave & Braidie Wilson

Lucy & Braidie are both students at the school in the Senior Class, and have been with The Dance Co. from the start, and were previously at Pirouette School of Dance with Lydia since a young age.

They assist in all the Primary & Junior classes and are seen as inspirations to the younger pupils of the school.
